DON KARDONG
(Biography)

Stanford University record holder for two, three and six miles

Ran his first marathon in 2:18:06 in 1972 and competed in the 1972 U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon and 10,000 meters

In 1974, ran a 3-mile in 12:57.6, and achieved a personal record of 4:01.9 in the mile

Finished third in the 1976 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon with a time of 2:13:54 and was 4th in the U.S. Olympic Trials 5000 meters one month later

Finished 4th in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games and achieved a personal best of 2:11:16

Winner of the Peachtree Road Race in 1976, the 1978 Honolulu Marathon, and the LeGrizz 50 Mile Ultramarathon in 1987

Founding member and past president of the Association of Road Racing Athletes, and past president of the Road Runner’s Club of America (1996-2000)

Television and radio running commentator and published author

Senior writer for Runner’s World magazine since 1987

Founder of the Lilac Bloomsday Run in Spokane, Washington (50,000+entrants)
